Dear Families,
It is once again time for our annual Book Fair! St. Rose School continues to strive to enhance our library and supply our students with new and numerous books. Our annual Spring Book Fair is one way to help this process and promote reading at home and at school. This year the Scholastic Book Fair for St. Rose School will be held March 10th- March 13th, with Tuesday (10th) being the student and teacher preview day.

Visit our homepage where you can set up an Ewallet or shop online.
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/stroseelementaryschool3 Online store is open until March 22th.

Our Book Fair is a great time for families to purchase books, not only for themselves, but as a gift for their children's classroom libraries as well. Gift certificates will also be available. Proceeds from the fair will be used to buy new books for the library, the classrooms, and our reading program. Based on previous book fairs our school usually receives 55% of the profit in books. As you can see the fair has proven to be a very effective way of supplying our library with durable hardback books that can be enjoyed again and again. Scholastic is required to collect taxes on books and merchandise purchased at the book fair; however gift certificates and books bought for teachers will be tax exempt. Parents please keep this in mind when sending money with your children.WE DO TAKE ALL FORMS OF PAYMENT AND CHECKS CAN BE WRITTEN TO ST. ROSE SCHOOL. Also check out our EWALLET option online!

We will have a full display of books this year, including cases and tables. Below is a list of times when your children will be visiting the fair to purchase books with their classes. Families are welcome to come anytime when the fair is open, but please check in at the office first. The Book Fair will be open from 8-9:30am and 2:00-4:15pm Wed-Friday.

So proud of our LEGO Robotics intramural group! 🤖This week our students designed, built, and coded a break dancer and a fully functioning Ferris wheel. Watching their ideas come to life was incredible! From problem-solving to teamwork to troubleshooting code, they truly embraced the engineering design process. Ironically, this is also National Engineering Week! A huge thank you to Sarah Tebbe, water engineer at HMG Engineers, for visiting and sharing about her career and the many different paths within engineering.

5 Essential Survey:

School Environment Matters: The 5Essentials Survey is used to Improve Student Learning
Students, teachers and parents weigh in on school climate and learning conditions.

Tuesday, Feb 3rd, St. Rose Elementary will join the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the thirteenth statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. From Feb. 3rd - March 13th, students and teachers will be invited to participate in a 30-minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment. The parent survey supplement will also be administered during the same survey window. These surveys will serve as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring five “essentials” critical for school success:

Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environment
Ambitious Instruction

St. Rose Elementary has consistently participated in the statewide 5Essentials Survey and is opting to administer the survey to teachers and students again this year to continue tracking and informing progress.

Principals and superintendents will receive their 5Essentials Reports in May. Survey results will also be reported publicly on the UChicago Impact Reporting Website in June and on the State School Report Card website in the fall. An optional parent survey supplement is available to all schools as a supplement to the 5Essentials Survey for teachers and students—results from the parent survey supplement will be included only in the individual school 5Essential Reports. Since 2013-14, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey has been normed using the 2012-13 statewide results so that all schools can demonstrate progress over time. As with last year, the 2025-2026 Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be normed using the 2024 statewide results.

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, UChicago Impact is providing Illinois 5Essentials to schools statewide. Teachers, students, and parents may complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey online.

Begin the survey: https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/
