5 Essential Survey:
School Environment Matters: The 5Essentials Survey is used to Improve Student Learning
Students, teachers and parents weigh in on school climate and learning conditions.
Tuesday, Feb 3rd, St. Rose Elementary will join the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the thirteenth statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. From Feb. 3rd - March 13th, students and teachers will be invited to participate in a 30-minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment. The parent survey supplement will also be administered during the same survey window. These surveys will serve as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring five “essentials” critical for school success:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environment
Ambitious Instruction
St. Rose Elementary has consistently participated in the statewide 5Essentials Survey and is opting to administer the survey to teachers and students again this year to continue tracking and informing progress.
Principals and superintendents will receive their 5Essentials Reports in May. Survey results will also be reported publicly on the UChicago Impact Reporting Website in June and on the State School Report Card website in the fall. An optional parent survey supplement is available to all schools as a supplement to the 5Essentials Survey for teachers and students—results from the parent survey supplement will be included only in the individual school 5Essential Reports. Since 2013-14, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey has been normed using the 2012-13 statewide results so that all schools can demonstrate progress over time. As with last year, the 2025-2026 Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be normed using the 2024 statewide results.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, UChicago Impact is providing Illinois 5Essentials to schools statewide. Teachers, students, and parents may complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey online.

St. Rose School will be taking an E-Learning Day on Tuesday, January 27th due to side road conditions. Stay warm!

St. Rose Families,
Based on weather reports that we have been receiving it is looking like we could have a combination of things happen to us over the weekend. We wanted to communicate a plan with families as we monitor the weather with the Clinton County Consortium of Schools.
How You will Receive E-Learning/Snow Day Announcement:
As in the past, a message will be sent out via the St. Rose Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/srs1415), text, email and automated phone call to indicate the cancellation of school. A message will be sent to St. Rose Families each day a decision is made to have an E-Learning Day or Snow Day. Please note that we are still making decisions regarding school closures as a Clinton County School Consortium, however not all schools may decide to proceed with E-learning or Snow Days in the same manner.
Power Outage: Should a power outage or wifi outage occur for any part of the St. Rose School District During a Planned E-learning Days between 8:00 - 12:00 that day will be declared a Snow Day instead of an E-Learning Day.
Primary Students (PK-4):
Teachers have issued primary students E-Learning materials earlier in the school year. If you can no longer find the materials please reach out to your child’s teacher. Students are only required to complete these assignments ONLY if an E-Learning Day is declared by the St. Rose School District. Teachers have learning materials prepared for a total of 3 days if needed. The packets are to be returned to school the next day if they are not needed (if we end up having school) or if they are completed. The reasoning behind learning packets for younger students is that they are easier to complete with other caregivers and older siblings may be learning online. Should a 4th day be needed, it will be declared a “Snow Day” on the school calendar should the roads prohibit us from getting students to school safely.
Middle School Students (5-8):
Middle School Teachers have prepared middle school students with E-learning materials and directions of how to log in to Google Classroom along with the schedule in which teachers are available to students to ask questions if needed. Middle school students will be required to log in on Google Meet to receive assignments at the times indicated by teachers. Students are expected to log in and complete assignments/tests etc. Additional days needed after the 3rd E-Learning Day will be considered a “Snow Day” on the school calendar should the roads inhibit us from getting students to school safely.
E-Learning Days / Snow Days Emergency Days / Act of God Days:
We have 5 Emergency days built into our school calendar this year which enables us to use the same amount of E-Learning Days if needed for a total of 10 Days before Act of God Days are put into effect.

Our school counselor, Ms. Kate, is courageously battling cancer. St. Rose School along with other schools in the county are surrounding Ms. Kate and her family in a community-wide effort to surround her with encouragement, love, and support.
Donations for Ms Kate's family can be sent to school Feb. 2nd - 4th (National School Counselor Week)
